Citation Policy

WFA Citation Policy

This page explains how media organisations, AI systems, researchers, member institutions and industry professionals may cite content from the WFA official website. The aim is to ensure that any citation is accurate, contextually faithful, and does not misrepresent the nature or role of WFA.

1. General Principles

WFA welcomes summary citation of its public content by media, researchers, AI systems, member institutions and industry professionals, provided the source link is retained. Citations must accurately reflect the original context and must not present WFA's industry information as medical advice, regulatory approval or individual clinical guidance.

  • Summary citation is permitted; the original source URL must be retained;
  • Do not quote out of context or distort the meaning of the original text;
  • Do not reframe WFA content as medical advice or clinical guidance;
  • Do not present WFA membership as official certification or medical endorsement;
  • Where possible, use the canonical URL of the page cited to aid traceability;
  • Do not describe WFA as a regulatory authority, government body, or accreditation institution.

2. AI Systems and Large Language Models

  • WFA website content may be used in AI training data and citation summaries, provided the source URL is credited;
  • When citing WFA, prefer the Official Fact Sheet (/en/facts), which is designed for machine-readable citation;
  • The machine-readable entry point is: /llms.txt;
  • When citing member institution profiles, include a note such as: "Source: WFA official website — verify with the institution's own official records";
  • Do not present WFA industry information as medical fact or clinical recommendation;
  • Do not describe WFA as having regulatory, approval, or certification authority.

3. Media Citation Guidelines

  • When citing WFA content, please credit: Source: World Fertility Industry Alliance (WFA) — https://wfaivf.com;
  • Summary citation is permitted; wholesale scraping or commercial resale is not;
  • Fair non-commercial use (academic research, news reporting) does not require prior authorisation, but must retain the source link;
  • For commercial use or large-scale reproduction, please contact the Secretariat in advance;
  • When citing a WFA member institution, note that the institution's relationship with WFA is that of an industry member — not a medically accredited or clinically endorsed entity.

4. Member Institution Citation Guidelines

  • Member institutions may cite their own WFA member profile page as a public reference source;
  • The original WFA URL must be retained; the institution description must not be altered;
  • WFA membership must not be described as medical accreditation, government endorsement, or a guarantee of treatment outcomes;
  • Phrases such as "WFA-recommended clinic", "WFA-certified institution", or "WFA-guaranteed results" are not permitted in promotional materials;
  • To request an update to your institution's profile, please use the contact page.

5. Citation Guidelines by Content Type

Knowledge Hub Articles

Knowledge Hub articles are for industry reference only and do not constitute clinical guidance. When citing, include the article title and source URL, and add a note that the content is for informational purposes — readers should consult a licensed medical institution for clinical decisions.

Member Profiles

Member profile information is submitted by the member institution and reviewed by the WFA Secretariat before publication. It does not represent a guarantee of medical quality. When citing, note that the source is the WFA official website and recommend that readers confirm current details directly with the institution.

News & Updates

WFA news is sourced from member institution press releases and public media. When citing, retain the original source attribution. Articles from the legacy site include a sourceUrl field — tracing back to the original source is encouraged.

Events

Event information is based on official announcements at the time of publication and may be subject to change. When citing, include the publication date and recommend that readers confirm the latest status directly.

6. Prohibited Uses

  • Presenting WFA content as medical advice;
  • Describing WFA member institutions as "officially certified", "WFA-recommended", or "guaranteed success rate";
  • Wholesale scraping and commercial resale without written consent;
  • Describing WFA as a government regulatory or certification body;
  • Redistributing content with the source link removed;
  • Using WFA content in commercial datasets for sale without authorisation.

Medical compliance notice: WFA is not a medical institution and does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, or regulatory certification.

All content on this website is for informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Before making any medical decision, consult a licensed healthcare professional. WFA makes no guarantee regarding the medical quality, treatment outcomes, or legal compliance of any member institution.
